There are four different zones for parking in Reykjavík with different price categories. Each parking zone has a P-sign close to the parking space that indicates the category. P-zone 1 is most expensive and is usually located closer to Laugavegur (the main shopping street) and Lækjargata (City centre). On the map below, you can see i information on parking around the hotel.
Parking is free during following holidays: New Years Day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Monday, First day of summer, May 1st, Ascension Day, Whit Monday, June 17th (Independence day), Bank Holiday Monday in August, December 25th and 26th.
A parking garage is located in the basement of the hotel. The parking garage is accessable through the hotel stairs or elevator. Exit is on floor -1 (same as the gym). The garage holds up to 1.300 cars and usually has enough space. In the evening and during the night, there is usually a lof of free space in the garage and the price is very affordable (80 ISK an hour after 6pm and same price on Saturday and Sundays). During weekdays the price is 320 ISK per hour from 8am – 6pm.
The garage parking system is operated with license plate recognition and is simple to use. When you enter the facilities there is a pay station on the right side mounted on a wall. There is also a ticket machine in the hotel lobby. You pay after your stay just before you leave the garage.
Ticket machines
Find a ticket machine closest to your parking. You type the license plate number into the machine and select how many hours you like to stay. Then print out the receipt. The parking inspectors carry a gadget where they scan your license plate and get info from the system whether you’ve paid or not.
The process is simple: You just type in your license plate number, decide how long you need to park and the machine will tell you how much to pay. You can pay with coins (10, 50 and 100 ISK but no change is given) or you can pay with a credit card.
